Ivie Cares Partners with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Annual Big D Climb
Flower Mound, TX (June 7, 2011) - For the past two years, Ivie & Associates, Inc. employees have participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) annual Big D Climb, in which participants climb 52 flights of stairs, translating to 1,040 steps, with all proceeds going to the LLS to fund blood cancer research, education and patient services. This year, Ivie Cares, a community service program of Ivie & Associates, participated in the Big D Climb with a team of over 150 people, raising roughly $29,000 in donations for the LLS. Ivie also served as the corporate chair for the event. In total, over 200 Ivie associates, friends, and family have raised $40,000 over the last two years for this worthwhile cause.Ivie’s involvement with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Big D Climb arose through an associate’s personal connection to the organization. Loan Huynh, an Ivie associate, is a two-time survivor of leukemia.
"This is a battle that not only I fought but also my family and friends, as I would not have been able to make it through this difficult experience without their love and support," Huynh said. "However, sadly there are those who don’t have the support system I was fortunate to have. The LLS helps to provide a network of support for these patients by connecting them with other patients or survivors who will understand exactly what they’re going through."
Ivie hopes to stay involved with the Big D Climb and the LLS in the years to come as many associates enjoy this event each year.
"Climbing 52 flights of stairs, hard as it was, was nothing compared to chemo and radiation and the pain and exhaustion a cancer patient feels during and after treatment," Ivie employee and cancer survivor Sabrina Warren said. "I look forward to doing this again next year with my entire family."
