Postal Rate Increases

Beginning April 17, 2011, postage rates will increase for services within the United States Postal Service. The Postal Service is regulated under the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act – this means that the Postal Service may petition for a rate increase annually, but an increase is subject to approval by a third party body (Postal Regulatory Council). Also, the rate of increase is capped at the rate of inflation year over year. In 2010 no postage increase was implemented within the USPS.

On average, increases will be between 1% and 2% for common mail classifications (standard letters & flats). The level of saturation within the mail list could also lessen the increase to less than 1% for full saturation mailings.
